County Trustee Norma Knox
The office of Trustee is an elected Constitutional office that was established as a tax collection agency for each county in the state of Tennessee. This office generally acts as treasurer for all funds of the Cannon County Government including the Cannon County School System and the Highway Department.
The county Trustee serves three major functions:
1. Collecting the county property taxes (all property, real and personal, tangible and intangible and personal utility taxes)
2. Accounting for and disbursing county funds (including proper apportionment and determination of fund availability).
3. Investing temporarily idle county funds.
The Trustee office also administers the state of Tennessee Tax Relief program to help the elderly, disabled and disabled veterans or surviving spouse pay their property taxes.
Current year taxes run from January 1st through the last day of December, which are due and payable beginning October 1st through the last day of February the following year. Beginning March 1st, unpaid property taxes become delinquent and begin to accrue 1.5% interest on the first day of each month. April 1st, prior year delinquent taxes are turned over to Chancery court and are handled by the Clerk & Master.
The combined Cannon County tax rate for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2018, is $2.3839 on each $100.00 of taxable property, which is to be provided revenue for each of the following funds and otherwise conform to the following levies:
